The locations of the films and videos shot in the Cannaregio district in Venice (sestiere di Cannaregio) |
|
This city has often, and always has, been the setting or the true protagonist of hundreds of films shot in emblematic or particularly suggestive places. Among the locations most used by directors there are certainly Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal, but also the rest of the city and its islands are a very present cinematic environment. Over one hundred films have also been shot in this district (sestiere di Cannaregio). ⇓ Open full map places ⇓ |

cichetti and ombre
In Venice, cichetti are exclusively morsels made with various ingredients that are placed on a base of bread or polenta. The name seems to derive from the Latin ciccus which means small quantity, and outside of Venice in almost all other places in Italy, a cicchetto instead means a small glass of liqueur (in English shot)!
The Venetian cichetto is made with slices of bread on which cold cuts are placed (for example soppressa or salami ham...) or creamed cod or boiled eggs, or musetto, but the cichetti are also small fried morsels, for example small "mozzarella in carrozza", breaded sardines, battered vegetables, meatballs or squid skewers or more.
Un "cicchetto" (cichetto) a Venezia è sempre associato da sempre ad un'' "ombra", ossia ad un bicchiere di vino.

Near CanAlvise/Alvisiano
The Alvisiano / Canalvise apartment overlooks Campo Sant'Alvise, a characteristic Venetian "campo", located a few steps from the Church of Sant'Alvise (15th century) and the adjacent convent of Sant'Alvise (closed and abandoned by the 2020). Campo San'Alvise is bordered from east to west by the Rio di Sant'Alvise with the bank "fondamenta dei Riformati" which can be reached from the south by crossing the wooden bridge of Sant'Alvise and to the north by passing under the arch of the "Calle delle Scuole " you can reach the Giurati foundations with a wide panorama of the Northern Lagoon with a view of Murano and the islands of San Michele, Tessera and Campalto and the Venetian pre-Alps and the Dolomites (on clear and dry days).
In the nearby Church of Sant'Alvise (15th century) [ARTISTIC VISIT TIMETABLES: Monday to Saturday, 10.30 - 13.30 and 14.30 - 17.00 (ticket offices, bookshop closing and last admissions ten minutes before closing)], among the many art, there are three paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo in particular "La salita al Calvario".
